Colourstrings Method
Colourstrings is a child-centred approach to music teaching developed in Finland by Dr Geza Szilvay. Based on the teachings of Hungarian composer Zoltan Kodaly, traditional folk songs and classical music are used to bring musical points to life.
Rhythm, pitch, melody, dynamics, tempo, character, form and style are absorbed using pictures, stories and games, singing and instrumental playing.

Why Colourstrings Works
Children learn unconsciously and effortlessly and have all the right skills in place before learning to play a musical instrument.
Emphasis is placed on the development of the inner ear and in addition to the development of musical skills, children also benefit from improved concentration, memory and more developed social skills.

What schools are saying!
“We found Maryse so very pleasant, professional and organised to deal with. She made the whole introduction of the Colourstrings so easy for us.
The children really enjoyed the fun stories the puppets the instruments and the guided easy movement to music, and were becoming familiar with the stories and “movements” over the weeks”
We are really looking forward to the next set of lessons to enhance the children’s musical understanding.”

In Finland, Colourstrings has been a core part of the state music education for more than thirty years and is now an internationally respected way of teaching music to children. In the UK, it is quickly becoming the most popular early years music program.
