Am I Too Old to Learn to Play Piano?

Am I Too Old to Learn to Play Piano?

Maryse Collins

I firmly believe that you are NEVER too old to learn to play piano.  Here’s why I love taking on older beginners as piano students.

  • If learning to play piano has always been on your wish list – what better possible reason is there to do something about it?
  • You will already have developed many of the required skills in other areas of your life. Now these same skills will help accelerate your piano playing – ability to read, better concentration levels and improved self-discipline.
  • The older you are, the better you will be at using online resources and technology.  These are improving year on year and can be of great benefit to you on your road to success.
  • Older students have more developed musical tastes and already know the music they do and don’t like.  Learning to play a piece you absolutely love will excite you – there is no greater motivation.
  • Our brain is capable of learning new things at any point in our entire lives. Lots of studies show that learning something new keeps our brain young.
  • When it comes to comprehending music, it’s an advantage to be older and wiser.  Your brain is better equipped to understand the underlying principles – giving you a deeper understanding of what you are learning.

Take Away

Studying music at any age is good for mind, body and spirit and is something to enjoy for a lifetime.
